Happy New Year from Parksville

We were invited to spend New Years Eve in Parksville with Nic, Emma and Nic's parents Ed and Joyce. Parksville is up island, about 2 hours north of Victoria. Yes, Nic is Emma's boyfriend and yes it is sometimes confusing with Nic and Mik so don't worry if you thought so too. Before the New Years Eve dinner we went for a walk in Rathtrevor Park followed by a drive to Cathedral Grove where we saw 800 year old trees. Ed was a fabulous tour guide and the drive continued through Qualicum Beach before returning to Parksville. Great to hear stories of the area where Nic grew up.

New Years Dinner was nothing short of a feast and we were spoiled with delicious dishes, hor d'oeuvres, cheeses, deserts, specialty coffees, wine and Dutch Olliebollen. We even managed to stay up until after midnight and had plans to venture into the night to capture the northern lights. This plan however was dropped as the probability, as forecasted by Nic's trusted tracker site, diminished throughout the evening. Di and I had a peaceful sleep in the quaint carriage house in the back yard.

New years morning offered another chance for a walk along the gorgeous beach in Parksville and gave us a good view towards Mount Arrowsmith. Hardly a wind and clear skies made this a perfect way to start the new year. Thanks Ed and Joyce for having us and we hope to see you again before too long.
