We spent a wonderful Sunday with Dominique and Cathrine. Dominique had offered to help me source new running shoes and Philippe had recommended going for a run with him. We went to a Decathlon store and I have never in my life seen so many running shoes in one spot. It was surprisingly easy to settle on a new pair. The shoes needed testing right away so Domonique showed me a nice 5K route along the river in Aulnay-sous-Bois. He is indeed a great running coach. Do made sure I kept my speed reasonable and we enjoyed a nice chat / run and enjoyed the morning views and atmosphere along the river.
After the run we were treated once again to a superb Sunday lunch. The plan for the afternoon was a trip to Chateau de Pierrefonds. The castle is located about an hours drive north east of Aulnay-sous-Bois. Below I resort to a brief intro from Europedia.
The Château de Pierrefonds is one of France's most handsome and imposing medieval castles. Its white stones and towers with multi-level turrets on top give it a romantic atmosphere reminiscent of the ideal Cinderella castle. Originally built as a fortress 600 years ago, it was reconstructed in the romantic style in the mid-19th century.
We could not have asked for a nicer day for this outing; clear blue skies and white puffy clouds. We all enjoyed the castle tour and wrapped our visit up with a walk though the quaint village. As a bonus, the village was hosting a vintage car exhibition and I would estimate about 2-300 motor cycles had made the trip to Pierrefonds on this stellar spring day.
