Iceland Road Trip
Day 4: Höfn - Reykjavik, 458 Kilometers
Iceland Itinerary 5 Days
Day 1: Reykjavik to Stokkseyri
Day 4: Hófn - Reykjavik
Driving in Iceland
Our Iceland itinerary was for 5 days, so it was time to double back as we made our way to Reykjavik along the same route we had followed the previous three days. The other option would have been to take the Iceland ring road, a 1332 kilometre loop. We had not allowed enough time for this but maybe one day. So backtracking it was.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach
Good news. The weather cooperated and we enjoyed varying degrees of sunshine. An all-around pleasant day for the 7 hour trek back. We made several stops along the way, including a second look at the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. The light is everything.
5050 Travelog 2018 Summary
This is our wrap up post for 2018. We are back in Vancouver scheming the final leg of our 5050 Travelog project, scheduled to commence in the fall of 2019. As of today, we have traveled to 33 countries in 38 months. We are plotting the remaining 17 countries and the final stamp should be in our passports by Jan 1, 2020, if we are to reach the goal we initially set for ourselves. A hint, I start Spanish lessons on January 7th. We are also excited to hear our friends, The Duleys, have moved into their newly built home in New Zealand and apparently there is enough room at the inn for visitors. In 2015 we traveled to Hong Kong as our first stop of this journey, where they were living at the time. We made a pact “The Duleys” would be our first and last destination. How wonderful it is to have such great support.
Happy New Year to everyone. We cannot wait to return in 2019 with more stories and photos.
Our Photo Gallery with Travel Photography from Iceland
Photos in this post are captured with Fujifilm X-H1 and X-Pro2 cameras and processed in Capture One. For the long exposures at Diamond Beach, I used a Hoya ProND1000 filter and had the X-H1 mounted on a PIXI mini tripod from Manfrotto.
We rented a small Kia Hatchback, which was fine for the roads we traveled. For many destinations in Iceland, you will need a vehicle with more clearance and quite possibly a 4 wheel drive. Make sure you read up on your destination to make sure you do not get stuck. Note also your insurance may be void if you travel on terrain not meant for the vehicle you have rented. We stocked up on lunch snacks from the local supermarkets along the way. We found pricing more reasonable than we had anticipated. x
