We had not had time to build expectations for our Washington State road trip, and yet we came out positively surprised. We crossed the border in Osoyoos and had a no-fuss overnight stay in an affordable motel in Oroville. After a solid oatmeal breakfast and coffees at a cozy diner we hit Hwy 20, not really knowing what to expect. We have crossed the mountains to the Lower Mainland many times before but never travelled this route. First stop was in Winthrop, a western themed town. Washington Pass took our breath away with several view points and a stunning short hike right off the highway. The hike into Rainy Lake was a bit longer than expected but certainly worthwhile.
