Twenty six years later and we still reminisce about our trip to Corfu in 1992. The lasting memory is of a day cruise on a small vessel, swimming from the boat to secluded coves. Lunch was rosemary seasoned chicken, grilled over an open fire, served on the beach. It was a wonderful feeling of freedom and our goal was to repeat the experience in Symi.
We had read about the Poseidon day cruise before arriving and the deal was sealed when Nicholas, our gracious host, recommended it.
On the captain’s recommendation, we arrived early to secure good seats under the canopy joined by two British couples, about our age, and an older Italian couple. The Brits were repeat visitors to Symi, and spoke proudly of the old days in the mid-eighties when their luggage was delivered to the hotel by donkey. The Poseidon trip was a fixed ritual and by the look on their faces we were in for a treat.
I could go on and on about how wonderful this was. Which beaches we stopped at, what we had for lunch or the fact the 81 year old Italian was a better swimmer than I but we don’t want to alienate our readers. Trust us. It was amazing and I hope the pictures speak for themselves.
Roger and Caroline were so kind to invite us to the local pub for a cold Mythos after the trip. A fitting end to the day.
