2 Weeks With a New Lens - Voigtländer Nokton 50mm f/1.2

The Honeymoon Phase With a New Lens

I am in the honeymoon phase with a used, new to me, Voigtländer Nokton 50mm f/1.2 Aspherical. Those who have followed my blog for some time may have noticed a few reviews I have done with this lens (links below). I have reviewed it on the Fujifilm GFX 50R, Nikon Zf, and Fujifilm X-Pro2.

You would think that I always buy gear after reviewing it but I am afraid this would result in a financial catastrophe. The Voigtländer Nokton 50mm f/1.2 is an exception. I have had it for a couple of weeks now and mostly done a bit of street photography with it.

This will not be a full review as it would become quite repetitive from my other Nokton 50mm reviews. Thanks to my friend Kyle, I have been able to get familiar with this lens before purchasing it. I had been looking for a used copy for a while and finally succeeded when a copy showed up at Camtec Photo in Montreal.

The lens is in A+ shape and I paid roughly $700.00 for it. I have come to appreciate the Voigtländer Nokton 50mm f/1.2 for its excellent build quality, superbly smooth manual focusing, wonderfully tactile overall feel, and fast 1.2 max. f-stop.

The Nokton renders images with a classic vintage feel when shot wide open but it is also very sharp when stopped down. The bokeh is very smooth without being over-the-top swirly like some vintage-style lenses.

That’s a wrap for this “Musings” post. Hope you enjoy the images.
