New Years in Copenhagen

Happy 2020 Everyone!

It would seem this headline is wrong and perhaps we were all a bit naive when we wished each other a happy new year on December 31st, 2019. But then again, there is nothing wrong with the headline other than the fact that we have delayed this post by a full year.

I won’t go into detail about how strange 2020 was but merely try to stay positive and wish everyone a Happy 2021!

New Years’ Eve Dinner With Bro and Linda

We were spoiled with G&Ts and enjoyed an amazing dinner with great wines. It was a festive evening listening to our favorite tunes all night long.

The fireworks display in Denmark is exuberant. It is festive alright but feels almost like a warzone and it goes on for hours and hours. It actually goes on for days actually but not with the same intensity as on New Years Eve.

Quick Photo Session

Linda asked if I would take a few photos, so we set up a quick studio in the living room using two living room lamps placed in a studio-like fashion and picked a neutral background. It was a ton of fun and a good photography challenge.

January Travel Planning

For the first days of January, we were back to travel planning. Our flights for Bangkok were already booked with a departure on January 9th but the dates and destinations for the remainder of January were still fluid.

We had a rough schedule that included Myanmar, Malaysia, Bali, and our flights were also booked for country number 50, New Zealand, on February 1st.

The countdown for the departure date was on so we started packing, repacking, and considering if we should leave some of our winter clothes behind or ship stuff back to Canada.

We tried a few ideas for size and finally, we settled on bringing everything along as shipping costs and logistics made it tricky to change things.

We had a system in place with our current packs and basically went back to the format we had used for the previous two and a half months.

We figured once we made it to New Zealand and had a base with Sharon and Leighton we would not have to worry about packing all of our stuff around New Zealand.

Hanging Out Before Departure

We mostly hung out with Emma, Simon, Søren, and Linda before our flight to Bangkok. We also paid a visit to Allerød and our friends Gerd and Niels. It was great to have a few days for this after the holidays.

We treated ourselves to an excellent day trip/brunch outing to Vestamager with Emma and Simon where the excellent brunch was at Restaurant 8tallet.

It was a cold but sunny day and we wrapped the day up by walking through central Copenhagen, to Kongens Nytorv, and to warm us up we had another coffee in Illum along Strøget, the main pedestrian street in Copenhagen.
