May Visit in Vernon

When we rolled into Vernon two weeks ago, we were due for some much-needed vacation time. We stayed with our friends, the Fanfanis, and the latest backyard addition, a hot tub, was a big hit.

Our stop in Vernon was part of a longer road trip, which you can read more about here:

Hikes

We did a few shorter hikes around Vernon, so perhaps I should call these walks instead of hikes.

On the first evening, we walked in the hood near the Fanfanis’ place. Another evening, we walked the hills above Fulton. We also visited the Rise Golf Course, hiked the Grey Canal trail, and had a wonderful stroll and chat with our friends, the MacKinnons, in Kalamalka Provincial Park.

Okanagan Rail Trail

We didn’t bring our bikes to Vernon. Instead, we rented e-bikes at the Kalavida Surf shop. Since Philippe bought an e-bike a couple of years ago, I have been tempted to hop on the bandwagon.

It was a ton of fun. We kept a steady pace of around 20 kilometers per hour, even when pedaling into a strong headwind as we biked south along the lake to Oyama. The bikes could go faster, but there was no need to hurry.

We stopped for lunch in Oyama. We had intended to go further south, but the dark clouds towards Lake Country looked threatening, and we decided to turn around and ride in beautiful sunshine with a tailwind back to Vernon.

Total distance: 50 kilometers.

Yeah, we rented e-bikes :)
