We knew FC Barcelona had a home game while we were in town but kept postponing the decision to purchase tickets. A decision heavily influenced by the ticket prices. When tickets were released online there were only individual seats so we decided it wasn't meant to be.
Camp Nou - Largest Soccer Stadium in Europe
If you follow soccer or as they call it in Europe, football, you know about FC Barcelona's home field, Camp Nou. Growing up in Denmark and especially during Michael Laudrup's tenure in FC Barcelona we heard about Camp Nou and Barcelona all the time.
The stadium seats just over 99,000 people and is the largest in Europa and the second largest in the world.
Fan arrive to Cam Nou
On game day we pulled the "when in Rome" card when we saw tickets available at the local tourist office. We were super stoked about it, all day. Emma was nursing a cold so we started the day by relaxing for a couple of hours on the beach.
We had an early dinner at home and headed out for the game. We bumped into fans everywhere, including the metro. Di struck up a conversation with a Canadian couple who had just arrived. They had a quick nap at the hotel and were headed straight to the game.
Getting to and from the game, and the whole game experience was quite a civilized affair. No one was rowdy and it was surreally quiet at times.
People moved in an orderly fashion to and from the stadium. The fact they only serve alcohol-free beer at the stadium could have something to with this. We saw lots of families with kids.

The stadium was awesome and we loved our balcony seats located about two thirds up the stands in one corner. It was a perfect vantage point for the game and below us, we saw iconic players such as Messi, Neymar, Suarez, Iniesta, Alves, and Pique.
Most FC Barcelona fans were probably happy to see us leave town again. Their team lost two important games while we were there. On our first night, FC Barcelona left the Champions League with a loss to Atletico Madrid. We followed the game at a restaurant.
Valencia got the better of them this evening at Camp Nou with a 2-1 win in an important game which could have kept FC Barcelona at the top of La Liga. FC Barcelona lacked sharpness upfront.
The game had some moments of excitement but the fairytale home win eluded us. It seemed the fans took the loss in stride. Despite the loss, we all agreed it was an awesome experience. Glad we did it.
