Figuring Out Travel Plans and Camera Updates
The days have flown by in Hong Kong. We've already been here for two weeks and plan to stay a bit longer. Di had a persistent cough and was under the weather again last week.
Thus, we have decided to stay put, in rest and recovery mode, until the end of the month and have postponed any decisions regarding our next moves.
Bali and other Southeast Asia destinations may be on the cards, but we may also come up with something completely different. A special thank you goes out to our wonderful and generous friends Sharon and Leighton.

The smog in the air has finally cleared here in Hong Kong, and the twenty degrees and sunshine we are enjoying are sheer luxuries. We have made plans for a few day trips and are otherwise working away in the apartment at The Peak.
Sharon and Janette’s Book
Sharon and Janette are in the final stages of a year-long project to write a book, and we've been doing our part to help them finish it. Di has been proofreading and helping with Word issues.
I have been assisting with the cover layout. Four laptops around the dining table, and it feels like a small production company. I have also been working on my mfoto.ca site and have added a travel section—still more work to be done.
Leica Update
I kept myself busy, ignoring the US inauguration, by researching all of the new camera gear announced on January 19th. Where to start? First, Leica dished out a new M10 with a lighter and more compact body. They took away the video capability, but the price is still a whopping CAD$ 8,469.00.
Tempting, but sorry, Leica, I couldn't bring myself to pay that kind of cash, although the published sample images taken with the $7,210 35mm SummiluxM f/1.4 do look very nice.

New Cameras from Fujifilm
Fuji had several announcements. The improvements to the Fujifilm X100F look encouraging, and at $ 1,700, the camera is much more reasonable, although the price has increased compared to the outgoing model. Of interest to me, Fujifilm also released a new XF 50mm f/2 R WR lens. This would fit nicely into my kit.
Last but not least, Fujifilm released a new medium-format camera (with a large sensor). The GFX 50S. This is an interesting camera, and I'll be watching closely as more reviews and RAW sample images come in.
Update. I have since had a chance to review the Fujifilm GFX 50R.
As tempting as all the new cameras are, I appreciate my choice of a travel camera, the Fujifilm X-Pro2. It is compact, produces wonderful files, and works well in a variety of settings.
I'll leave you with images taken over the last week here in Hong Kong.

The photos in this article are made using a Fujifilm X-Pro2. Lenses: XF 14mm f/2.8 R - XF 35mm f/1.4 R - XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR (links to my camera and lens reviews). Editing was done in Lightroom. I have used Fujifilm film simulations for some of the photos.
